FREE STUFF FRIDAY

Yes, it requires an ALL CAPS title, because as I was sitting at my kitchen table, typing away, the Fuzzball of Doom alerted me that the mail carrier was at the front door. (Don't be too impressed, she's been telling me the mail carrier was in the garage all day, and was right exactly zero times.)

Despite FoD's track record, went to the front door, and there was this:

Which had been left, not by the mail carrier, but by someone from UPS who was smart enough not to ring the bell and upset FoD - which is always annoying for everyone in earshot.

So I brought it inside and set it on the doily table (There's supposed to be a lamp there, but someone may have accidentally knocked it off and broken it, but then cleverly hidden it by putting a doily on the table. Also, "doily" is a weird word, just sayin'.)

And what's inside this box, you might ask? (Or should I say, "better ask, if you want free stuff"?)

Oh look! Bright shiny books with my title on them, which is to say, I HAVE ARC'S FOR ARCLIGHT!!! I wasn't expecting the ARCs to be embossed or to have the prismatic effect of the hardback, but guys...GUYS... they're sooooooooooooo shiny!

Anybody want one?

If so, just comment below and tell me what *you* think the Fade (the villains of Arclight) are just based on their name and the Amazon blurb:

The Arclight is the last refuge in a post-apocalyptic world consumed by terrifying monsters called the Fade. No one crosses the wall of light that keeps the last human survivors safe. There's nothing else left and nowhere to go. Or so they thought, until Marina, a lone teenage girl, stumbles out of the Dark.

Marina doesn't remember who she is, where she came from, or how she survived. And the Fade want her back. When one of them infiltrates the compound and recognizes Marina, she begins to unlock secrets she didn't even know she had. Marina knows she's an outsider in the Arclight, but she'll do anything to protect those who saved her. Whether they want her help or not.

In a week or so I'll pull a number out of a randomizer and the corresponding comment will win.

And (since I've already fessed up to being a greedy, greedy writer-person in search of more attention) I'd appreciate your spreading the word via Twitter, Facebook, hand signals, whatever.

  1. I have no idea what kind of villain the Fade are! Which is kind of exciting because I will get to figure that out when I read it!

Those ARCs are very pretty! :)

  2. I will guess that the Fade are scary post-apocalyptic ghosts. This sounds great!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oh man, just from the blurb the book sounds fascinating. I would say the Fade is some kind of evil spirit being that can take shape of humans. That is my best guess.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Sounds like my kind of book!! Very exciting!!

  5. Ooh, they are gorgeous! ARCs are great but typically lack the fantastic covers that grace the final versions but these are definitely not lacking.
'No one crosses the wall of light that keeps the last human survivors safe.'... Well my guess would be some form of shadow creature. But I could be completely off the mark with that. :)

  6. At first I thought they where vampires, because of the light sensitivity. Maybe they are some sort of mutation? One that "fades" ones humanity and are now taking over the world??
    Just a guess =/

  7. Im sure exactly what the fade are but im thinking maybe they make people disapear.

  8. I have to agree with Bonnie - that cover is stunning. As for what the Fades are - I'm tempted to guess either shadow-beings or maybe the undead? That last is a very random guess, but, I think that would be awesome.

And congrats on the book - it sounds so creative and fun.

  9. I'm thinking ghosts, but the first thing I thought of was the movie Pitch Black. This concept sounds way better than either of those ideas, though.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Fades sound like vampires, because of the whole "DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT" issue. Looking forward to discovering the truth!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm guessing the Fade are creatures that erase a person's memories and identity.

The cover looks great. Can't wait to see it in stores!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I keep thinking of the Vashta Nerada from Doctor Who- the flesheating shadows in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Which probably isn't right. My guess would be the Fade are some sort of creature that can rewrite reality, but only temporarily and under certain conditions. I'm probably completely wrong about this.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Those ARCS look fantastic!

I think the Fade are magical creatures that can make their enemies dissolve into thin air.

Hope you sell a million copies, Josin :) Can't wait to read it!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hmmm, well... I think that a Fade is an evil ghostly kind of creature and the have the power to vanish memories, feelings and ideals until they all fade away....

I can't wait to read this one!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Congratulations! Is your ball of fur curious about those shiny covers

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think the Fade are mutated victims of whatever destroyed the world and they are allergic to the sun. Or they are just old people who look better in dim lighting.

Villains are so misunderstood. I NEED this arc.ha Congrats by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think they might be Fallen angels but with a non traditional twist in that they they are Aliens or not even corporeal.

Or.....I'm going with Ghosts who haven't crossed over and are in limbo land. They are called the Fade because they are transparent but still exist in this plain. Oh and they are angry and quite possibly dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Those ARCs are freaking GORGEOUS!!!! I want one. tehe. ;) *grababy hands* They look tots mysterious!

As for the Fade, I want to say something like....VAMPIRES. Lol. They don't seem like a goblin kind of monster... they skind intelligent in a creepy way. They probably aren't vamps though. Lol ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Umm...I'm going to guess the Fade are Witches...or Warlocks too. The ARCs are GORGEOUS!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have no clue what the Fade are, honestly.. It's obvious they're not savage monsters if they're able to infiltrate the Arclight.. I would guess they're people with crazy powers or just unfortunate to not belong in the Arclight! That or they really are smart monsters.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hmmm...The fade sound like spirits that are able to commune with this world physically. If not it still sounds fantastic :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow! Those are gorgeous books! The story sounds great. Not sure what kind of creatures. Since they don't like the light, maybe some sort of vampire hybrid? Lol Congratulations on your book and thanks for the giveaway.:)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't know what the Fade is, which means the description is doing its job! Sounds like a great read!

    ReplyDelete
  24. What the creatures are, have no guess but the fade is an area where the light fades into total darkness

    ReplyDelete
  25. Josin, they're gorgeous! My heart actually skipped a beat when I saw the open box. I'm going to guess that the Fade is a shapeless entity that engulfs and traps humans, wiping their thoughts and memories, as if they're in a trance or coma.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ooooh pretty! so shiny!
And the plot sound great! And the Fade? hmmm, some human-monster-mixture?
    Thank you for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think fades are extremely deformed humans with a strange skin disease.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Zombies! Or mutants! Or aliens! I really don't know, but I'm dying to find out. Thanks for the contest. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ooh, interesting, very interesting. Mysterious villans in a post-apocolyptic world.
I'm going to guess: the lasting energies of all the people that died in the apocalypse.
Gorgeous cover! Thanks for sharing with us.
Off to tweet about it :-)

  30. I'm thinking maybe some type of werewolf and the arc light protects the humans because the werewolves can only turn at night...maybe *shrug*. Or a vampire....

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know it's a long shot, but I think maybe they're memories that have sort of come alive like ghosts.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congrats!

    Fade = shadow monsters?

    lesly7ch(at)yahoo(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the Fade are either ruthless shadow creatures OR hologram-type creatures that move in staccato like the Weeping Angels in Doctor Who. :D

Also, those ARCs are GORGEOUS. My goodness.

    shelver506 at gmail dot com

    ReplyDelete
  34. They sound like some kind of primordial force that is erasing the memory of humanity form the world.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I guess the fade are human beings who were infected with a desease that makes them antisocial and zombie-like and light-sensitive, and they lost their memory and it's kind of contagious. But frankly, I have no idea. Could be aliens, too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Those are some fantastic ARC covers!

Are the Fade post-apocalyptic vampires? :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Whatever they are, they're adapted for darkness. I think that they can transform humans into whatever they are.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That cover is so pretty! And your synopsis makes me curious, what exactly are Fades? They sound like vampires. I can't wait to read more about them!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hrm . . . I'm guessing the Fade are actually some sort of demon-like creature, but with a scientific explanation for their existence and properties (like possessing people - I'm guessing they do that).

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love the cover! My guess is the Fade are some sort of ghostly shadow people or something of that nature. I can't wait to read this(:

    ReplyDelete
  41. So excited for this book! I'm guessing the Fade are kind of like the kids from The Others. Ghosts with a sensitivity to light who don't know they're dead. And maybe they eat people.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am not too sure what the fade are, but I bet they are going to be awesome bad guys.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Fade might be an alien race...something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Haha! I love the people that referenced Doctor Who. The shadows in the silence of the library episode totally came to my mind, too. Seriously creepy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. The ARCs look amazing! I have been anticipating this release since it came up on Goodreads. I'm guessing the Fade are a personification of the dark (meaning the dark can move and take the form of a person) that swallow anything they pass and smother them in complete blackness....

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Fade reminds me of the dead that come back from the other side in demon form. Not living, not dead, somewhere in-between.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't know but I'm intrigued! Maybe wha't left of humans err faded into shadows something, something?????

    ReplyDelete
  48. Awesome cover! I cant wait to jump into page one, feet first!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Something to do with shadows?

    ReplyDelete
  50. The Fade live in the half-light, stealing the energy of the living. Yay for your pretty ARC's.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think the Fade is some form of secret government like "The Matrix," someone who keeps the people hostage to do what they want.

    You book covers are gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Preeeettttty Coooooooover! I want one :). Maybe the Fade are just regular people who got shut out of the light.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm terrible at guessing games, but I'll have to guess that the Fade are ghosts. Your ARC is gorgeous! I really really want one:) And I'm listing Arclight as one of my Top Ten Debuts I'm excited for, in tomorrow's Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks for the opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Josin, don't include me, but I just wanted to say I can't wait to read Arclight, and your writing Wednesday pieces have been outstandingly fascinating (and fascinatingly outstanding, too).

As far as the Fade, I'm guessing they're Dark Elves who rose up from the cracks of Mordor, eager to escape the bonds of Middle Earth only to find that Top Earth has gone all FUBAR ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. YAY!! I can't wait to read Arclight! I think the Fade might be either some type of vampire-like creatures that can't stand the sunlight, or - along those same lines - creatures that can't stand the light (though not necessarily vamps) and that live underground or in caves maybe. :)
